TAMRON 2026 Photo Competition

I am thrilled to be announced as a runner-up in the TAMRON 2026 Photo Competition, with one of my entries being selected by the judges to be in the Top 10 from over 1000 entries.

The prize was an A3 framed print of the image, provided by Epson NZ.

I’m looking forward to it arriving and finding somewhere to hang it on the wall!

The Selected Image

About the image

I hiked up Mount Iron before dawn to find that Albert Town down below was hidden in fog.

I took a few shots, and then started to capture a timelapse, hoping that the moving fog would create a nice foreground as it moved around, with the sky changing colours as the sunrise developed, culminating in the sun coming up over the horizon.

As the sun came up, some tree tops cast shadows in the fog. I only had one camera with me, so I had to make the call to stop the timelapse (hoping that I had captured enough), so that I could swap to a longer lens, my Tamron 150-500mm.

Composing the scene was challenging, the fog was moving and I needed to choose the right moment. For example, the trees could disappear in the fog altogether and then reappear with other distractions visible such as a roof or the ground.

It was a brief window, then the light became too harsh, and the effect disappeared.
